Then, get ready for the AMC 10/12 competition to be held right here at Apex Campus in November. AMC 8 will be next in January!
What is the AMC 10/12?
The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) are prepared by the MAA yearly, and the program is dedicated to fostering the next generation of mathematical thinkers.
The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad (see Invitational Competitions).
Topics covered in the AMC 10/12 include, but not limited to:
- Counting and Probability,
- Elementary Geometry (including the Pythagorean Theorem)
- Spatial Visualization,
- Real-world applications,
- Graph and Table Interpretation
In addition, some of the later questions may involve
Linear or Quadratic Functions and Equations,
- Coordinate Geometry,
- Advanced Algebra,
- Advanced Geometry,
- Other topics typically covered in a beginning algebra course.
Who is eligible for AMC 10?
The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. If you're in 10th grade or below and under 17.5 years old on the contest day, you're eligible to take the AMC 10.
- TMSA Star League Students are automatically registered for the test, no additional action is required.
- Other eligible TMSA students need to complete THIS REGISTRATION FORM until Friday, October 20, 2023, at 3:30 PM.
Who is eligible for AMC 12?
The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. If you're in 12th grade or below and under 19.5 years old on the contest day, you can participate in the AMC 12.
- TMSA Star League Students are automatically registered; no further steps are needed.
- Other eligible TMSA students need to complete THIS REGISTRATION FORM until Friday, October 20, 2023, at 3:30 PM.

- AMC 10/12 A: November 8 (Wednesday), 2023, 4:00pm
- AMC 10/12 B: November 14 (Tuesday), 2023, 4:00pm
- Eligible students can take both A and B versions of the test.

- Duration: 75 minutes
- Number of Questions: 25 multiple choice questions
- Test Format: Online
- Students must bring their own devices.

What About AMC 8?
AMC 8 will be held on January 18 and 24! Students who are in grade 8 or below are eligible to participate in the AMC 8. Both Cary and Apex Campuses will host AMC 8 on January 18 and January 24 and more details will be announced a month before the test. This test is also free for TMSA students.
