Happy February!

I have so much good news to share. First, the official groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, has predicted an early Spring! Although we’ve seen signs of spring, we know that February can be fickle. So don’t put those winter clothes away just yet; I have the feeling we have not seen the end of the ice and snow for this year.

More good news is that on Tuesday, February 02, 2016, Triangle Math and Science Academy hosted three Town of Cary council members, Jack Smith, Ken George, and Ed Yerha, to the Grand Opening of its newly completed auditorium, gymnasium, and library. Students in grades 6-9, as well as several parents, attended this event. One of the council members gave a short speech, “before and after” pictures were shared with the audience showing the progress that has been made in our building project, red ribbons were cut, and the council members were given a tour of the school. It was a very pleasant morning. TMSA appreciates the support that the Town of Cary has provided to us as we continue to fulfill our mission.

I also have some exciting news about upcoming events at TMSA. This month and next, TMSA will hold information sessions for parents of students interested in attending our school next fall. These information sessions will highlight our school’s curriculum, accomplishments, facilities, and all of the wonderful things TMSA has to offer. Information Sessions for K-8 will be held on February 11 and March 3 from 5:30-6:30. The High School sessions will be held February 25 and March 10 from 5:30-6:30. Please invite your friends, neighbors, or anyone you feel may be interested in receiving information about our fabulous school.

Many students made the Principal’s Honor Roll for second quarter. This honor goes to those in grades 2-9 who earned a 4.0 (straight As) on their report card. Several other students earned the Merit Honor or the Achievement Honor. I’m so proud of our students!

Our annual grade level breakfasts will run from Feb. 9-19. The breakfasts will begin at 7:30 a.m., but all students must have a parent with them in order to attend. Please check the TMSA calendar, so you can plan to join your child for breakfast on the day his class is scheduled.

I’ll close with one more item of good news. Our central administration will be hosting a cultural diversity program at the Duke Center on April 9th. The title is A Living Mosaic of Cultures and Languages in North Carolina: Southern Hospitality Embracing Diversity. It will include performances from all three of our sister schools. I’m sure you will be hearing more about it in the upcoming weeks. It will definitely be a celebration of diversity! I hope you will make plans to attend this wonderful event!
