WELLNESS ACHIEVES

Why Wellness in the schools?
School is where students spend their time and where they learn from teachers and
from peers. The national organization, Action for Healthy Kids, conducted a meta-
analysis of nearly 200 research studies and published a report entitled, “The Learning
Connection. The Value of Improving Nutrition and Physical Activity in Our Schools.”
The results show that healthy eating behaviors increased academic test scores,
improved daily attendance, and better class participation, and have also been shown to

reduce tardiness. Exercise was found to improve cognitive function and regular physical
activity supports better learning. Physical activity was also connected with improved
self-esteem and reduced anxiety and stress, both of which lead to improved academic
performance.

So in other words, students learn best and achieve more when they eat smart and
move more! Let’s support our children and help them succeed by supporting wellness
efforts at TMSA.
