3rd Grade Science- Sound Unit

The 3rd grade has been learning all about sound this quarter.  We have completed several science experiments that involved students using tuning forks, constructing a model eardrum, making reed instruments, and now we are constructing stringed instruments.

Students are observing how pitch can change depending on the length and tightness of the string.  Students constructed this instrument by using a pencil, 30lb fishing line, a washer, and a plastic cup.

Figure 1-Dorian, Jacob, and Alex are investigating sound through making vibrations with string.

Figure 2- Ana and Quinn are listening how the pitch of the string has changed now that their string is long.
