Principal's Corner

Late February and early March are known for unexpected and sometimes violent weather patterns. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your efficiency in getting all of our students home safely before the storms rolled in on Wednesday. Although a few places lost power, we were fortunate not to have had any major damage to our school or our immediate area. We will continue to have tornado drills this spring, so that students and staff are well-prepared in such emergencies.

TMSA students have been busy participating in several local, regional, and state competitions this month.

In science, 18 projects were registered from our school for the Wake County Regional Science Fair. Nine of these students will advance to the North Carolina State Science Fair. Also in science, the TMSA Middle School Science Olympiad Team received 40 individual medals and brought home a third place trophy. An 8th grade student from Writer's Workshop had a poem published in the Creative Communication Poetry Contest. And finally in math, ten Middle School Mathletes from TMSA competed in the North Carolina Chapter level contests of the national MATHCOUNTS® program where they placed 4th as a team. Additionally, TMSA students participated in the AMC-8 (American Mathematics Competitions). Our students received one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Overall, the team earned one Distinction award, seven Honor Roll awards, and three Merit awards.

We are extremely proud of our students and staff, and I know that you will join me in wishing them all congratulations on their accomplishments.
