FIRST LEGO League Tournament

FLL 1

TMSA hosted one of the biggest events in Robotics.

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) is an international inquiry-based program for children ages 9-14 that grows their interest in science and technology through an exciting, team-based, competitive event that includes a research assignment, a robot game, and life skills projects. FLL participants get to:

  • Design, build, test, and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology.
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts.
  • Research challenges facing today’s scientists.
  • Learn critical-thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.
  • Participate in tournaments and celebrations.

TMSA Elementary and Middle School Robotics had four teams that participated to two different competitions during this year’s tournament. Two teams went to Flat Rock Middle in Winston-Salem and two teams competed here at TMSA.

This year’s FLL challenge name was “Trash Trek” which required finding better ways to manage trash. Students involved had worked hard on all aspects of the FLL competition to find innovative solutions for this year’s topic.

TMSA hosted an FLL competition for the first time and it turned out to be a great success. All twenty four different teams from North Carolina had a lot of fun and learned skills that will last a lifetime. All our Robotics teams came very close to qualifying to the state level.

Everyone involved had a good time during this great learning opportunity. TMSA Robotics Team would like to thank all mentors and volunteers that helped making these events successful.
