2nd Graders Visit A Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch

All of the second graders at TMSA went on our first field trip of the year, visiting Upchurch Farm. We were able to pick our own pumpkins and do many other fun things!

At Upchurch Farm, we got to talk to the owner, Farmer Ganyard himself.  He arranged for a special hayride for us and we got to explore in the 8-foot tall corn maze.  There was also a giant pit filled with corn kernels that we could jump and dive around in.  A playspace made from hay bales and slides was a lot of fun!  We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch on the farm, and even got to cut our own pumpkins right from the vine.

After returning from the field trip, we continued to learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin.  We completed a STEM project in which we took lots of measurements, explored a pumpkin using our five senses, and built a scale model of a structure we think would keep a pumpkin from rotting.  We had a great time and learned a lot!
