TMSA has several activities planned which will help to instill a love of reading to all of our students.

To those of us who are readers, nothing can be better than curling up in a comfortable chair and diving into a good book during those rare moments when we have no other obligations.  Teachers at TMSA seek to pass this passion for reading on to our students. We have several activities planned this year that will give students opportunities to read for pleasure and will help develop a lifelong love of reading.

Reading Incentives: All TMSA teachers grades K-3 and ELA teachers grades 4-8 have implemented reading incentive programs into their classrooms.  Some teachers have created their own program for keeping track of students' reading time or the number of books they have read, and will offer their own rewards for meeting the classroom or student goal.  Sixteen TMSA classrooms will participate in Pizza Hut's Book It! program which begins October 1 and runs through March of 2016.  For this program, students log the number of minutes read, pages read, or books read according to the goal set by their teacher.  If a student meets the monthly goal, he or she will earn a coupon for a free personal pan pizza.  Reading good books and earning a free pizza sounds like a "win-win" situation to us!  Students who meet their reading goal for all six months will also be acknowledged by TMSA administration.

Free Reading Time: All TMSA homerooms grades 6-8 have scheduled free reading time built into the daily schedule this year. Either before or after lunch, students are given a full 25 minutes of uninterrupted reading time.  Please be sure that your child always has a book ready to pull out and read during this time.

Library: The TMSA library is finally open! Grades K-3 classrooms have already been using the library. Grades 4-9 students will begin using the library as early as next week.  We are so excited to have more books to choose from! Thank you to Ms. Powell for her hard work in getting the library ready for us this year.

Scholastic Book Fair:  The PTO will sponsor our annual book fair again this year in early November.  Please watch for details on this exciting event and school fundraiser!
