Music at TMSA

Dear TMSA Family,

New sounds and creative methods served as the theme for this week, with students beginning to explore their own compositional methods and learning a song in the Hindi language.

Students began to think of ideas this week to implement into their composition projects.  They have their choice to bring in a portable instrument of their own, or use a glockenspiel from class or one of the non-melodic percussion instruments.  Students are grouped in pairs so that each group can utilize one melodic instrument with one rhythmic instrument, and to enjoy the process of feeding of one another's creative energy.  As we progress towards winter break, we will use the compositional process to review some of the concepts that we have learned thus far, and to explore new ideas as well.

Also, upper grade levels have been learning a wonderful song, Yeh Taara Woh Taara, sung by Udit Narayan in the film Swades.  Many students feel challenged by the Hindi language, but find themselves singing the chorus confidently later on!  Next week, we look to explore yet more new creative music through compositional processes and vocal practice.

    Regards,
