Music at TMSA

Dear TMSA Family,

Students entered into a professional style rehearsal atmosphere this week by beginning to focus on the details of their choral performance pieces.

On December 14, TMSA students will perform vocal music at the Craft Fair, and we have begun the process of putting together a program that will feature different groups of classes.  While this is still being worked out, we have begun focusing diligently on a few different possible selections for this event.  Grades K-2 have been practicing Count On Me by Bruno Mars, a beautiful song about friendship.  In doing so, they are focusing on pitch and rhythmic accuracy, proper breathing technique, and dynamics in phrase structure.  Grades 3 and 4 worked on Shakira's Waka Waka, an upbeat and uplifting inspirational song that incorporates a high level of virtuosity and presents many complex rhythmic structures.  The upper grades have looked at one of two different famous Indian songs, Yeh Tara Woh Tara by Swades, or Gurus of Peace by A.R. Rahman.  These songs also incorporate complex yet beautiful melodies, and learning music in a foreign language is great for expanding the creative mind.

Next week, we will continue to rehearse the songs (possibly others as well), and students will begin working on their performance projects.
